These are battle hardened goblins trying to get recruited into the Hobgoblin ranks as foot soldiers. They also incidentally have managed to acquire more gold and trinkets than their Near Cloakwood brethren.
Mid Cloakwood Portals
Curiously the farther into The Cloakwood one goes the stronger the portals seem to get. These portals link even deeper into their corresponding planar realms. Which makes them considerably more dangerous and lucrative.
